The 1934 World Series Championship team featured Hall of Famer Dizzy Dean and his brother Paul Dean. The brothers combined to pitch all 4 of the Cardinals victories in the 7 game series against the Detroit Tigers.In the regular season the team had 5 regulars bat at least .300 and a 30-game winner in Dizzy Dean.The Cardinals were known by their nickname “The Gashouse Gang” for their scrappy appearance and rough play amidst the Great Depression and in contrast of “wealthier” East Coast teams.
